NovaMin Technology Inc. and Sultan Healthcare Inc. Announce Remineralization Product Development Partnership

ENGLEWOOD, NJ – April 2007 –NovaMin Technology Inc. (NTI) and Sultan Healthcare Inc. today announced that they have entered into a joint development and commercialization agreement to develop new professionally administered dental products for tooth remineralization.

The Agreement calls for the two companies to work together jointly to develop and launch at least 5 new products over the next year to be sold to the dental profession and trade worldwide.  The products will allow Dental professionals to offer remineralization and desensitization to their patients.

Tooth sensitivity affects approximately 80% of adults at some point in their life, and about 25% of adults chronically – affecting their dietary choices and impacting quality of life.  Products containing NovaMin have been clinically shown to rapidly and profoundly reduce dental sensitivity.  NovaMin reduces sensitivity by forming new tooth mineral which blocks the tiny pores (called “dentinal tubules”) on exposed tooth roots at the gum-line.  When these pores are open and exposed by receding gums or eroded enamel, this allows heat and cold to trigger pain in the tooth nerve.  By blocking these tubules, NovaMin eliminates the pain, while also protecting the tooth.  New products developed in the NovaMin-Sultan relationship will address this need and opportunity. 

Tooth erosion is the loss of tooth structure (mineral) to the acid attack of foods and beverages.  This is a problem which is rapidly becoming a serious dental issue due to the explosion in consumption of acidic beverages, particularly sodas and sports drinks.  When the pH in the mouth drops into the acid range (below 7), tooth mineral becomes vulnerable – but can be protected by the saliva and its buffering effects.  At pH levels below 5.5, however, the buffering capacity of saliva is overwhelmed and teeth begin to dissolve.  With pH values of popular soft drinks and sodas frequently as low as the 2.5-3.5 range, the loss of tooth mineral is inevitable.  NovaMin products have been demonstrated to have potent remineralizing and buffering effects that can reverse this loss of mineral.  New products developed by Sultan and NTI will offer dental professionals new tools to help protect and repair this damage.
